Video is everywhere!
So, you may have noticed that video is everywhere now. Right? It’s 2020. There’s a stay-home order in place for many of us. And if you are a business owner, it is an absolute must to have video. There’s no more question or option – should I or shouldn’t I?
If you want to stay connected to your customers and your clients, if you want to stay in business, you have to be using video to connect with people, to let people know about you, and to let them keep you top of mind.
What can you do to stand out?
And now that that is the reality, the conversation changes slightly to what can you do to stand out in your videos? You want people watching your videos, as opposed to those of your competitors. So, here’s where the discussion turns to one about quality.
It’s all about having GOOD video
It’s not just about having video, it is about having good video. You need to set yourself apart. You need to attract the right type of customers to you. You need to let people know that you are a valuable and credible source of information, especially when there’s such an abundance of information out there.
And no matter how good your information is, if you don’t capture people’s attention right from the start, they’re not going to be interested, they’re going to move on to something else, and you’re going to risk losing them to your competitors.
What do running shoes have to do with video?
So, we like to use a shoe analogy here – just go with us on this, okay? Let’s say that you are going to enter a race – it’s a marathon – and you want to try to win this race. Well, you are going to need a good pair of shoes. But not just any shoes. You’re going to need a good pair of running shoes.
And when we say a good pair, what we mean is something that’s going to give you the ability to do your best, to have you be competitive in this race, and hopefully, shave time off of your race. They need to be worn in, they need to be in good condition, you want to do anything that you can to have a competitive advantage with those running shoes.
Now, on the flip side, if your shoes have holes in them, or they’ve got a sole that’s coming loose and it’s flopping every time you take a step, or maybe you didn’t even take the whole shoe thing seriously, so you just showed up to the race wearing your flip-flops, neither of those scenarios is probably going to position you toward the front of the pack. They’re going to cost you time. and you’re not going to end up on that medal stand.
No more crappy videos!
The exact same thing is true about putting out high-quality videos for your business. You want people to watch your videos and instantly know that you’re a credible source of information, that you have value to give, that they should take you seriously.
It’s the same thing with running a marathon in flip-flops. If you show up to that marathon starting line in flip-flops, people are not going to take you seriously, you’re going to have trouble competing against your competitors, and it’s just not going to be a good situation for anyone.
People are not going to be able to pay attention to what you’re really there to do, which is to show them how amazing you are, because they’re going to be too busy thinking about why is that crazy person wearing flip-flops?
So the moral of the story is: don’t wear flip-flops to a race, and don’t put out crappy videos online!
