What can you learn from author Stephen Covey about making time to produce online videos for your business? Find out in this week’s episode of “Let’s Talk Video!”
Today’s viewer question comes from Desiree in Vancouver, Canada. She writes:
Hi Geffners!
I have heard about the power of online video and it’s something I’ve thought a lot about doing. But in researching how much time it’s going to take me to learn how to do it, I am questioning whether or not doing online video is right for me and my business. I’m already a very busy entrepreneur and I really feel like I don’t have the extra time to devote to this. Can you help me figure out if doing videos will be worth my time?
This topic is something that we feel really passionate about so thanks, Desiree, for bringing it up!

Look, we are experiencing a time where it’s so easy to get any kind of information you’re looking for online. We even carry around little mini-computers in our pockets (our iPhones). As for the power of online video, we all know that Google is the #1 search engine in the world. But do you know what the second most used search engine in the world is? If you guessed YouTube, you’re right! And this means that people are looking for answers to their questions in the form of video content. Here’s another fun fact for you: a web page with relevant video content is 50x more likely to appear on the 1st page of Google search results than a web page with no video content.
So Desiree, it’s time for a little tough love, Geffner Productions style! Knowing how much video can do for you in your business, saying that you don’t have time for it is just another excuse. The truth is, we always make time for what’s important to us. People spend their time doing things that they value the most, or what will bring them more of what they want. All the choices we make are based on what we consider to be our top priorities. So saying you don’t have time for something is just another way of saying that it’s not a priority for you.
So the real question is this: should making videos become a priority for you in your business? Once you figure out the answer to that question, then you can figure out how to make the time to implement the proper online video strategy.
When it comes to using online video to grow your business, we definitely think it’s worth the time and the investment. We highly recommend that you make it a priority in your business. However, knowing that it will definitely take time to make an online video strategy, here are 3 quick tips for producing online videos efficiently:
Time-Saving Tip #1:
Film a bunch of videos at one time. Write scripts or bullet points to make it easier to film several of them in a row. That way, you can accomplish more in the time you have set aside.
Time-Saving Tip #2:
Make a list of topic ideas. That way, when you do make time to write, you can figure out which topics you feel most inspired to write about. That always makes the writing go so much faster!
Time-Saving Tip #3:
If you’re doing online videos on a regular basis, then having a formula really helps to save you time. For example, it’s a great idea to create a script template that you can duplicate over and over again. That way all you have to do is slot the new content into that formula.
Desiree, we hope this helped you decide if doing online videos for your business is right for you!
