I’m new to the world of being an entrepreneur and I’m actually excited about doing videos for my business. I enjoy speaking to people and I can’t wait to get in front of the camera! My question is about how I can use video in my marketing. I don’t know where to start or what to focus on. Can you help?

Many entrepreneurs we meet are afraid to step into the spotlight, so knowing that you are excited to get started means that you are already way ahead of the curve!

This is one of our favorite subjects to talk about because we believe that the most important first step to producing online videos is to come up with a clear strategy for HOW you’re going to use those videos to market your business. Every business should have an online video strategy that is customized to their company’s specific needs. That being said, here are a few general tips to help you get started.

Tip #1: Use video to share your personal story

One of the biggest mistakes we see entrepreneurs make is not using their personal story enough. Every sale you make is determined by the personal connection you create with your client or customer. Especially if you’re an entrepreneur who is in a service based business, or who sells a product one-on-one to customers.

Your #1 goal should be to nurture a relationship with your potential clients and customers. The best way to do this is to show your human side. For example, why do you do what you do? Where does your passion come from? What first got you started and that keeps you going on a day-to-day basis? After watching your video, people will either love you and resonate with your personal story, or they won’t. Either way, you will inspire a clear response from viewers, who will either want to learn more about you and your company, or who will quickly move on, saving you time and money in the customer acquisition process.

Tip #2: Create and share regular video content

Make video an ongoing part of your marketing strategy. You can do this by creating regular video content. When done properly, not only does this help you get discovered in organic searches online, but it also gives you material that you can re-purpose. Use it on social media pages, your website or blog, and in your weekly or monthly newsletter or ezine. You may already know that we suggest getting started with either a series of regular short “tips” videos, or a weekly blog show. Whatever types of videos you end up doing, make sure you do them consistently. Stick to a regular schedule that your viewers can look forward to.

Tip #3: Use video strategically on your website

Keep in mind that your website is perhaps your most important online tool, as it sets the standard for what customers can expect from you and your company or brand. The exact types of videos you should use to maximize your website visitor’s experience will vary depending on the type of business you have and the details of what you offer. However, here are just a few ideas for what you can accomplish with video on your website: welcoming people to your site, sharing your brand story, explaining your free gift offer, describing each of your products and services, introducing people to your team members or employees, sharing testimonials from your happiest clients and customers, and much, much more.

The bottom line is this: If you’re not already using online video in your business then you are missing out on a HUGE opportunity to attract more visitors, increase your overall brand awareness, and connect powerfully with your ideal clients and customers!
