Fear of doing video is a real thing. We get it. It is very common, and in some cases, it is so debilitating that it can actually stop you from moving forward, and prevent you from getting what you want, if you let it.

So now that video has become an urgent matter, how can you get past your fear quickly, and as painlessly as possible, so you can finally start to leverage the incredible power of video to grow your business?

That’s what we’re talking about in today’s Video PSA…

Are you letting fear of video get in the way of your business success?

So, for many years now we’ve been doing video production with our private clients, and in that time also encountered thousands of other business owners who have let the fear of video get in the way of them actually moving forward. They know logically how video can help – that it can really step up their confidence, that it can lead to more sales, that it can make them look better and bigger and stronger online. And yet, they’ve somehow let the fear completely stop them from actually taking the step forward and doing it.

This is so incredibly frustrating for us because we know that we can help by helping people use video. And there are so many people who are sabotaging themselves and their own success by not being able to get through the fear. So, the advice that we have for you is not super sexy, but it is extremely valuable.

Start with a strong “Why”

So, let’s cut right to the chase here. The fastest and easiest way that you can move forward, and try to get through the fear as quickly and easily as possible is to develop and move forward with a super-strong “Why.”

What is a “Why”?

So, what is a “why?” It’s basically a very clear reason for why you do what you do. It supersedes anything else. All those fears and hesitations and thoughts running through your head that might be stopping you, it’s stronger than that. It’s your mission. It’s your vision. It’s your passion. It’s why you created your business in the first place – to help and serve people with your brilliance, with your genius. That’s your why. And if you really stick strong with that, it’s going to override all those fears and hesitations that have been stopping you in the past.

You need a long-term solution

It’s not enough just to make yourself do something. That’s a very short-term fix to a bigger problem. That’s what we call “white-knuckling,” where you grab on to the steering wheel, you hold it really tight, for a short period of time, until your knuckles turn white, right? It just doesn’t work long-term, and it’s not going to be something that works if it’s not really truly in alignment with who you are.

How strong is your “Why”?

For example, let’s say your goal is to lose weight. And if your “why” for losing weight is because maybe you want to fit into your old favorite pair of jeans that no longer fit. Or maybe you want to impress and ex-boyfriend, or something like that. Those “whys” might not be strong enough for you to step through and do whatever it takes to actually accomplish that goal.

That being said, if your reason for wanting to lose weight is because you’re a mom and you can’t get up and down off the floor anymore to play with your kids, so you’re missing out on quality family time, or maybe your doctor says you need to lose weight or you might die. Those are reasons where the seriousness of not doing it outweighs whatever you might be thinking about or hesitating or pausing, and not accomplishing your goal in the first place.

A strong “why” makes your fears less important

And so that’s where the fear of doing something is made sort of less important, because you have a really strong reason why you MUST do it. And then the decision sort of gets taken out of your hands, which could be a little bit easier in some cases, because if you know that if you eat those unhealthy foods, and you don’t exercise, and you just sit around your house, that you are going to die from some health condition, then you have to weigh out, do I wanna die, or do I wanna live?

And then you’re going to change your behavior. You’re going to step through whatever fear you have, or whatever hesitations you have, take that decision-making off of yourself because that “why” is strong enough. You’re just going to go ahead, and like Nike says, “just do it.”

What’s your big “why”?

So, what is your big why? Why do you do the thing you do? Why did you start your business? And where do you see yourself taking this to be able to impact even more people in the future?

And if you don’t know what your big “why” is, then this is the time and the calling to do some really deep, personal work to figure out what that is, because that alone is going to drive you past all the fears, all of the hesitations, that come up. In fact, if you can figure that out, you probably are going to see a lot of your fears just naturally dissipate.

In the meantime, stay safe, stay well, stay inspired to step into your entrepreneurial greatness with video.
